Foram ajustadas equações para o Estado como um todo, para a região litorânea e para a região continental. Para esta região, as equações que consideram a latitude e a altitude dão melhores estimativas para os meses de fevereiro a maio e as que incluem, também, a longitude são melhores para os meses de junho a janeiro e estimativa anual. A variação das temperaturas médias das máximas mensais na região litorânea não é explicada pelos efeitos combinados de altitude, latitude e longitude. O mode1o que considera a distância da costa, a altitude e a latitude, e o que inclui a latitude e a distância da costa permitem estimativas aceitáveis para os locais desprovidos de estações nos meses de outubro a julho, e agosto e setembro, respectivamente. Os modelos desenvolvidos para o Estado como um todo devem ser evitados, uma vez que as equações específicas para as regiões continental e litorânea dão maiores precisões nas estimativas.  Four mathematical models were studied in this paper to estimate the mean maximum monthly and annual temperatures for locations with no meteorological stations in the State of Espirito Santo. The multiple regression analysis were carried out with the mean monthly observed maximum temperatures data and were adjusted equations containing, besides latitude and altitude, the longitude and/ ourdistance from the coast. The models were developed for the State of Espirito Santo as a hole, for the coastal area (40 km from the coast and elevations 1ower than 200m), and for the continental region. For the continental region one can use equations containing 1atitude, longitude and altitude to estimate the mean temperatures for the months of June thru January; and for the months of February thru May equations based on altitude and latitude can be used. The variation of the mean maximum monthly temperatures in the coastal area can not be explained by, the combined effects of the altitude, latitude and longitude. The model which includes the distance from the coast, altitude and latitude or the model based on latitude and distance from the coast give a reasonable estimates of the mean maximum temperatures for locations with no meteorological data for the months of October thru July, and August thru September, respectively. The models developed for the State of Espirito Santo as a hole should be avoided, since the specific equations for the continental region and coastal area give better estimates of the mean maximum temperatures.  aEspírito Santo (Estado)  aTemperatura1 aSCARDUA, J.
