A produção e produtividade das culturas de café da região norte do Espírito Santo são freqüentemente afetadas pelo ataque da broca do café, Hypothenemus hampei, que causa prejuízos tanto direta como indiretamente. A criação dos inimigos naturais dessa praga tem sido realizada sobre frutos maduros brocados de café. Entretanto, como a colheita se faz em um determinado período do ano, a indisponibilidade de frutos em condições adequadas torna a criação dificultada. O presente trabalho
apresentou como objetivo o estudo do desenvolvimento do inseto praga em frutos de café conilon armazenados por diferentes períodos em refrigerador doméstico. A média de descendentes por fêmea foi variável, sendo o fator umidade um dos mais importantes parâmetros para o desenvolvimento dos insetos.
Bioassays were conducted in laboratory conditions to observer the development of the coffee berry borer in stored fruits of Coffea canephora in refrigerator. Dates are given about the comportment of the coffee berry borer created in this fruits. The humidity of the fruits was the principal factor that influenced the development of the pest. |

Coffee (Coffea arabica L) was introduced in the State of Espirito Santo in the beginning of XIX century, due to the expansion of the cultivated areas of the Paraiba Valley, Sao Paulo. Coffee monoculture was the predominant activity in Espirito Santo agriculture at the end of this century. It occupied the f?irst place in the economy and, from 1850, became the main vector of development and responsible for the formation of villages, towns and cities.
